Lower back pain
The single most common issue we see in Brixham patients, whether from years on the boats, lifting at the market, or long days standing in hospitality.
If you work the boats, the harbour, the trades, or the shops of Brixham, your body carries the weight of it. Devon Chiropractic Clinic has been treating Brixham patients for over 20 years. Matt Silvey MChiro provides hands on treatment that fits around shift patterns, tidal work, and busy seasonal schedules.
Brixham is a hard-working town. With one of the busiest fish markets in England, a commercial harbour operating around the clock, and a thriving hospitality and retail scene supporting both locals and visitors, we see plenty of patients from across the town whose work takes a real physical toll.
Fishermen and harbour workers are a big part of our regular patient base. Long hours on deck, repeated lifting of heavy gear, cold and wet conditions, and the constant motion of a working boat add up over years. Lower back issues, rotator cuff problems, and chronic neck tension are all common. We also treat plenty of workers from the fish processing and logistics side of the industry, where repetitive manual work creates its own pattern of strain.
Beyond the harbour, we see shopkeepers, café staff, hospitality workers, and tradespeople across Brixham town centre and out towards Churston, Galmpton, and Hillhead. Retired patients from the town, many of whom have worked physically demanding jobs, also come to us for help managing long-term joint and back issues so they can stay active along the harbour, the coast path, and Berry Head.
Our clinic is at Hill Park, Aveland Road, Torquay TQ1 3PT. From Brixham it is a straightforward drive around the bay, with free on street parking outside the clinic.
Around 20 minutes. Follow the A3022 through Paignton and into Torquay, turning off for Aveland Road. Free on street parking is available right outside the clinic.
Around 40 minutes. The Stagecoach service 12 runs frequently between Brixham, Paignton and Torquay, stopping close to the clinic. Services run every 10 minutes during the day.
Scenic alternative. In summer, the Brixham to Torquay ferry connects the two harbours across the bay. From Torquay harbour it's a short bus or taxi to Aveland Road. A lovely option on a fine day.
Every patient is different, but these are the issues we most often help Brixham residents with.

Fishing and manual trades are tough on shoulders. We help patients recover mobility and reduce chronic pain from years of heavy lifting and repeated use.
From driving, desk work in the harbour offices, and repetitive manual tasks. Often the root of chronic headaches.
Knees, hips, and wrists feel the strain of physical work on hard, cold surfaces. We treat both acute injuries and long-term wear.
Brixham is surrounded by superb walking, sailing and cycling country. We get people back to the coast path and the water quickly.
Many patients come not because they are in pain, but because they want to move better. Small adjustments over time can make a big difference.
Since starting treatment just a few months ago, I have noticed a massive difference in my back. Matt is lovely to talk to and tries very well to relax me. He is quite flexible with when I can book in sessions.Mercedes MajorPatient
